Why We Need Jesus Christ
The moment that we are born, we have a tendency to sin. You see, we don’t have to be taught to sin; we inherit the disease of sin. God said that the whole world is guilty of sin (Romans 3:23). All have broken the moral law. “As it is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one’” (Romans 3:10). God will not tolerate sin. He condemns it and demands payment for it. God could not remain a righteous God and compromise with sin. His holiness and His justice demand the death penalty. In other words, we will suffer judgment unless we repent. The word repentance means change—to change our minds, to change our way of living. But we can’t do that on our own. Only God can help us. The good news
The bad news is that our sin separates us from a relationship with God, we have all sinned, and the consequences for sin is death (Romans 3:10, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23).
The GOOD NEWS is that God sent His Only son Jesus to take the punishment for our sin and make the way for us to have a relationship with God (John 3:16). It’s amazing! The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the Only way for us to come into a relationship with God (John 14:6). Jesus willingly went to His death on a Roman cross and died for our sins (Romans 3:24-25). When we believe that Jesus is God and that He gave His life for us, and when we surrender our lives to Him we are saved from our sin and we begin a relationship with Him (Romans 10:9).
What are the next steps?
First, believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son. Next, simply believe He died to pay the price for your sin (John 14:6, Romans 10:9-10). Finally, pray and ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior.
If you’ve never prayed before, know that prayer is simply talking to God. He will hear you. Here’s an example of talking to God in prayer about your desire to know Him:
“God, I believe that you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. I admit I’ve gone my own direction and tried to do things my way instead of Yours. Because of my sin, I haven’t been able to have a relationship with You. Please forgive me of my sin. I’m tired of living without You. I believe You sent Your only Son, Jesus, to die as a payment for my sin and to bridge the gap between us. I confess there is no way to Heaven but through Your Son. I give my life to you. Amen.“
