House of Hope

We're taking this year to focus on ministries doing great things in their communities.  We hope that you will learn about these ministries and that God will create a heart in you to learn more, give or pray.  Our focus for February is HOUSE OF HOPE- NICARAGUA and here is their story.

In 2001, after speaking to a group of prostitutes, God began to birth a vision to help those women. The Holy Spirit confirmed the need to open a vocational center for the women and to provide them with a means to make a living and establish them in the Lord. Since that initial encounter the Lord has provided them with the land and they have built structures for job training, and housing for young girls and women with children.

Now, after almost ten years of evangelistic outreach to prostitutes in Managua many women have come to know Christ and a valiant group has made a stand to stop working the streets and attempt to support their families by various means, such as peddling candy and trinkets or doing laundry and ironing.

In June of 2004, House of Hope started a weekly support group. At first they had only two women in the group, then 25, and now they've grown to over 350 women each week. They have Bible study and prayer and are working at the cottage industry of making greeting cards to sell to supplement the income that the women have from other small jobs.

The small amount of money they earn from making the greeting cards helps to feed their children and provide for them to go to school. Donations of clothes, shoes and household items are collected from visiting teams and internationals. At Christmas they are provided them with a basket of basic food supplies. In February, with school uniforms for their children who attend school.
