Accomplishment

Category: Other

I often feel that even though I work all day I don't get anything accomplished. Every day there are dirty dishes, laundry, and errands etc. Even if I get them completed they are there the next day again and I get discouraged that I work and work and have nothing to show for it-. I bought a dry erase calendar and now I make a list of everything I get done each day (i.e. 2 loads of laundry, oil change, & cleaned the bathroom). Then I can look back at the week and see all that I got done and it gives me a feeling of pride and accomplishment. It also motivates me to make sure I do a little each day so I don't have a "blank" day on the calendar.

Leftovers

Category: Other

We are constantly wasting left over food or food items that we don't eat all of at once.  In an attempt to stifle this problem, I keep a Sharpie marker by the fridge and when I open a package, or put left overs in the fridge I write the date on it. I store most of our left overs in inexpensive containers (like Gladware) so I even write dates on those containers. When you put new left overs in one, just scratch out the old date and write the new one. There is a lot of surface area for writing dates, so write small and they will last a long time.

Parchment Paper

Category: Other

Use parchment paper to bake cookies on your cookie sheet. They remove easily with a plastic spatula NEVER resulting in sticking to the pan! (And for clean up, throw the paper away and you're done!)

Paper Mate Flairs

Category: Other

I LOVE my Paper Mate Flairs! As a teacher, I already love markers and pens, however, flairs are great because they don't bleed through the page like Sharpies! I carry my pack of 16 with me everywhere I go! Writing checks is much more fun in hot pink or orange. ;)

Treating Burning Skin

Category: Other

To treat your skin after exposure to oil from hot peppers or poison ivy, use "Goop". It can be applied, rubbed into the skin and wiped off with a dry towel. It is safe for skin and will take the burn out of skin exposed to hot peppers and reduce oil absorption of poison ivy. For pepper oils, rub it into hands and do not rinse with water.

Morning Alarm

Category: Other

To make morning wake up time easier, my husband started setting his phone alarm to a fun song and leaving the phone on the docking station with a speaker. When the alarm goes off in the morning, it is loud enough for everyone to hear and get up dancing instead of being so grumpy!

Excercise

Category: Other

Whenever my kids have after-school practice in their respective sports (swimming, track), I take my bike and bike trainer (a device which turns any bike into a stationary bike) and get my workout for the day done while I watch my kids' practice. I get comments from other parents ("That's a good idea!"; "I'm going to do that too!").

Sinus Issues

Category: Other

For sinus issues, rub vicks vapor rub or generic brand on feet and put on pair of socks before bed. In the morning your sinus issues are fixed and if not fixed, better:)

Ignore Series

Category: Other

Ignore most series in terms of books (and tv). If you get the first book cheaply and fall in love with it and HAVE to buy the rest of the series, that's time, money, and storage space down the drain. I admit that I miss some book series that would have loved, but what I don't know, I won't miss.

Fresh Herbs

Category: Other

Ever bought fresh herbs (cilantro, thyme, basil) from the store and because of all that moister they go bad? Try putting them onto some paper towel and sealing them into a Jiffy plastic bag.
