Camera Phone

Category: Organization

Use the camera on your mobile phone to simplify your life. We all make notes. We have little prayers, lists, schedules, ideas and more scribbled onto pieces of paper. Somehow I always forget them when I need them. One way I've simplified my life is to take quick pics of these notes using my cell phone, because I (almost) never forget my phone! It's a fast and easy way to take a note with you.

Excel Sheet

Category: Organization

Something that I have found useful for managing my time in a busy schedule is to create an Excel sheet to break down my week and day to day activities. You can set your time increments to any amount of time you wish to break the day down by (15min, 30min, or 1 hr). After you have laid out each day and your activities such as work, meals, exercise, classes etc. it is helpful to color coordinate each item. Once you complete this you will find it easier to see what your days and weeks will look like. This is especially helpful for college students to organize time for classes, work, homework and extracirriculars.

Kitchen Command Center

Category: Organization

We have a kitchen command center. It consists of a Menu, a dry erase calendar, and a blank whiteboard for additional notes. Everyone in our family has their own color of dry erase marker for the calendar. When there is an activity for a specific family member it goes in their color and they know that when they look at the calendar all they have to look at is their color to know if they have an appointment, activity, etc. For instance, my husband's work schedule varies so, in order for us to keep track of him, we all know his color is red. We look for the red to know when he is working and when he is off.

Too Small Clothes

Category: Organization

I have a cute basket in each of my kiddos' closet for clothes that are too small. That way, if I put a clothing item on them, and it doesn't fit, I immediately put it in the basket. It saves me the trouble of going through the kids clothes so much, since they grow so fast! No more trying on a hundred things at one time to see what still fits or what they've outgrown!!!

Shoe Organization

Category: Organization

Shoes piled in the laundry no more! Install a cheap wire shelf above the door all the way around the laundry room and instantly create an adult-height home for 100 pairs of mom & dad's (& taller kids') shoes... Shoes stay organized, separated and right on the way in and out the door.

Planner

Category: Organization

I started a new job this year where I travel everyday. I always keep my planner close by and up to date, but I found I was always adding and deleting events. Now, on Fridays I look at my planner for the next week and I label 5 index cards (I use the 4 X 6 ones), 1 for each day of the week. I then transfer info from my planner onto the corresponding day. Each day I grab the card for that day and look to see what I have planned. When I complete something on the card, I highlight it. If I don't get to something, I mark it off and write it on the next day. If something needs added to my day, I write it down. I have a index card holder that I then file the cards in. It is a great resource to go back and check something.

Organizing Sheets

Category: Organization

Easy way to keep sheet sets in order and together. after folding I take the fitted sheet, the flat sheet and any pillow cases(if you have 2 or more) and put them all into one of the pillow cases that matches the set. So when you need to change the sheets just grab the pillow case of the set you want and the rest of the contents for that bed are inside! Makes it nice when asking children to grab a set out for their bed. Keeps closets a little less messy looking as well!

Small Space Organizing

Category: Organization

We have a very small home and clutter tends to get the best of us. :( - So here's my motto.
If you haven't worn it in year, get rid of it.
If you haven't used it in 2 years, get rid of it.
If it has some special meaning, be creative with it.
If you can't seem to let go but it sits without being used, see if others could get some value out of it.

Life Binder

Category: Organization

One of my favorite organization tips is to create a "life binder." Especially helpful if you have children in school or multiple children. I took a basic 3 ring binder and made divider/tabs for different needs. Such as: calendars (school, sports or church activities), field trip forms, school information, homework help, pet records, books you want to read, homework help, or anything that you need to access easily and quickly.

Multiple Electronics

Category: Organization

For those of you who have multiple electronics plugged in to one or more surge protector strips and can never find which one to unplug should you need to replace it or maybe just troubleshoot something. You know the little square plastic colored pieces that are on breads, etc. Well, just write the name, with magic marker on it, ie. TV, DVR, etc. on that clip and snap over the cord - Electronics made simple.
