Bacteria on Fruit

Category: Meals

I am concerned about the dangerous chemicals on the fresh berries I buy. I use a simple recipe of 1 part vinegar (white or apple) to 10 parts water. Toss fruit in the liquid, swirl around, drain, rinse and put in container lined with a paper towel. Put fruit in the refrigerator and they will last so much longer. The vinegar kills the mold and other bacteria on the surface.

When reheating pizza, warm the pizza in the microwave for one minute. Then place the pizza in a skillet on the stove on medium to high heat for about two minutes to crisp the bottom. No more soggy crust!

Onions & Garlic

Category: Meals

After cutting or handling raw onions or garlic, get rid of the smell on your hands by running cold water and rubbing your hands on the stainless steel kitchen faucet! I don't know why, but it takes the smell away very quickly! Amazing!

Reheating Waffles

Reheat homemade waffles in the toaster. The waffle will be hot and slightly crispy on the outside just like when it was fresh.

Baked Eggs

Category: Meals

Instead of the mess of boiling hard boiled eggs, why not bake them? Place them in a muffin tin so they don't roll all over the place, heat oven to 325 degrees and bake them for 25-30 minutes. Easy to peel and no messy water to get rid of! Simple!

Crock Pot

Category: Meals

I'm a working mother of 3, I use my crock pot throughout the week as much as I can. I have learned to make almost anything in my crockpot from chicken, beef, taco meat, sloppy joes, meat balls, spaggetti, etc. I put the food in the crock pot before I go to work, supper is almost complete when I return home. This saves a lot of time that I can then spend with my husband and 3 boys in the evening.

Sticky Noodles

Category: Meals

There is nothing more annoying than having hunks of spaghetti noodles globbed together when going to serve dinner. This is how I keep my noodles (spaghetti, macaroni, lasagna--any kind) from sticking together while boiling in the pot. I drop about a teaspoon to tablespoon full of canola or olive oil in the water when I put the noodles in and stir! Works every time.

Vegetable Soup

Category: Meals

When I have leftover vegetables that I know I won't use in then next few days - I add them to a "vegetable bag" in my freezer. I any anything-corn, green beans, limas, black beans, cut up baked potatoes, etc. When the bag gets full I add ham pieces (also kept in freezer), tomato juice and spices to make Vegetable soup!! Yummy!

Hard Boiled Eggs

Category: Meals

Hard boiled eggs are always a great go-to for events all year round but peeling them can be a pain! Here is a great tip to make this dish as easy as can be. When boiling the eggs just add 1/2 a tsp of baking soda to the water. That's it. When its time to peel then, the shells will slide right off. No more messy looking deviled eggs and its a great time saver!
