Making Lunches

Category: Meals

Well, to be honest I do not like making lunches. Growing up, I was in charge of making my dad's lunch for work. So now I am faced with making my kids lunches and my own every day. To help that go quicker I have found if you take a day (I choose either Saturday or Sunday) and prep all the foods for the week. I cut and wash all the fruits and vegetables and store them in containers in the refrigerator. I also "prebag" all the chips, cookies, crackers, etc. for the week. I found out it not only saves me time but money because I now know how much to buy every week. I have also found we eat healthier, and the older kids can pack their own lunches because everything is ready for them!

Non Stick Cookies

Category: Meals

To keep cookies from sticking to your cookie sheets, use parchment paper. Not only will your cookies slide right off the pan, but your cookies will be so gooey and yummy, and your pans will be clean. Just place a piece the length of the pan down and then blop the cookie dough on it. It also works great for BBQ chicken, brownies, and so much more. The possibilities are endless!

Reheating Pizza

Category: Meals

My tip answers the question above. How do you reheat pizza without it getting soggy? The answer is simpler than you think. If you reheat it in a toaster oven it not only heats it evenly, it gives it a nice crisp crust. I have found that this can make left over pizza just about as good as new.

Sunday Meal

Category: Meals

We like to have a big family meal Sunday following church. Of course by the time we get home we are hungry. So I prepare the Sunday meal on Saturday night. Usually it is something in a crock pot. Then I just get up Sunday morning, turn it on and it is ready when we get home.

Reheating Pizza

Reheat leftover pizza without getting soggy! Put just a little butter on the bottom on each piece of pizza (or put olive oil in a pan). Then fry the pizza in a pan with the lid on. The crust gets crispy like grilled cheese, and with the lid on the rest of the pizza get hot and melted too. Learned this trick from my preacher :)

Ready Set Eat

Category: Meals

I really dislike grocery shopping, planning meals and coming up with something different for dinner. I recently found this great web site that has made such a change in all that is is called ready set eat. You can choose a recipe, print it, save it on your file and pick your favorite store and print the shopping list from the recipes you have chosen. I then write my menu on the back and hang it on the front of the refrigerator each week so I know what we are doing that night. if I have picked more than one recipe that uses ground beef i may cook two meals one night and save it in the refrigerator so i will have a really busy night a little less busy.

Leftovers

Category: Meals

I keep a roll of masking tape in my kitchen drawer to identify what and when I put leftovers in the frig. When I have left overs I write on the tape what it is and the date and tape it on the container. I do this with boiled eggs also. This way I can realize how long something has been in the frig and know what it is without always having to open it . By marking my leftovers this way I've wasted less food.

Winter Soup

In the winter time when vegetable soup tastes so very good, each time that you are cleaning off the table from dinner.Take each of those little leftovers, veggies and meat, and place in a large plastic container in the freezer . When your container is full, you are ready to make soup. Place a beef roast in the crockpot with a can of tomato juice over it .Let cook all night. In the morning add the frozen veggies and meat that you have saved up and let it cook all day. When you get home, you have a wonderful meal for your family. No work cooking and saved a lot of money on veggies too! The best part is it tastes different every time you make it!

Toast

To help elementary age children get toast or a bagel out of the toaster without burning their fingers always have a pair of wooden tongs by the toaster.

Easy Shell Removal

Category: Meals

For easy shell removal, use a rolling motion as you press a boiled egg into a countertop. The shell should crack around the middle and come off in two pieces (each end).
