Laundry

Category: Housekeeping

We have 5 children so laundry in itself is a full time job. One way I have made sorting clean laundry easier is by purchasing different brands of underwear for my three boys. I also purchase 3 different kinds of socks (no-see, anklet, and crew). When folding clean laundry I can easily put the clothes in their right piles just by looking at the brand of underwear or type of sock. It also helps by sight to tell the correct child to get their dirty socks out of the bathroom/family room ;) The girls' laundry is a little easier because their socks/underwear are colored in "girlie" colors. Their age difference is a big gap, so they are easily sorted by size.

Cleaning the Microwave

Clean Microwave in minutes- Use a microwave safe bowl and fill it with 1 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of vinegar. Then place it in the microwave for 6-8 minutes. When it is done, take out your bowl (use pads to take out because it will be hot) and use a rag/ towel to easily wipe the mess away.

Dawn Soap

Category: Housekeeping

For my simple solution i have found that Dawn diswashing liquid-"original," to be more than a dishwashing liquid. Have you ever washed a shirt and threw it in the dryer, only to pull it out and think "aaahh there was a stain, it's ruined." Well, its not, with Dawn. Just put some Dawn on the stain, let it sit for a day and wash it again, it's gone. Dawn is the only stain remover i use, and what's better? It's only a $1. Hope this is a helpful, simple solution :)

Slip Steps

For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won’t refreeze.

Fresh Sheets

Category: Housekeeping

Something that has simplified my life is when folding sheets, fold them and one of the pillowcases and put them all inside the other pillowcase that goes with it. Then, when you go to change sheets, you grab the pillowcase that has all the sheets that go with it, and you are good to go. With three different sized beds at our house, this helps because I am not grabbing the wrong sheets or mismatching them and messing up the entire linen closet. You can also throw a dryer sheet in the pillowcase to keep them smelling fresh. Who doesn’t love clean, fresh smelling sheets?

Garbage Disposal

Category: Housekeeping

Just recently we had an issue with the garbage disposer being extremely noisy. It sounded like it was coming out after us! I poured about 1/2 cup of
vegetable oil down the disposer, without having the water on, and ran it for about 2 minutes. Then I filled a glass with ice and dumped that into the disposer. We now have a quieter, less scary garbage disposer, without spending the money to have a repairman come "fix" it!!

Laundry Baskets

Category: Housekeeping

Purchase a laundry basket or small crate for each family member. If you can't find a different color for each person, the children can decorate their baskets with markers and stickers for easy ID. When laundry is clean whoever has laundry detail can toss it right into the correct basket. Then, people can fold and put away their own clothing. The baskets can double as dirty clothes bins as well, or be stored nested. The same containers are great for cleaning up. Each person goes through the house putting their stuff into their own basket to be put away. Instant improvement!

Homemade Cleaner

Category: Housekeeping

This year God took me on a journey of faith and as an added bonus awareness. One of the blessings of that journey was my beginning to make homemade cleaners. I found a cleaner that I love. It is so simple that you will have all the ingredients you need already. It consists of water, vinegar , alcohol and lemon juice. You can use it from the toilet to the mirror. I don't think it can be easier. I am so thankful to God and I am having such fun making my own cleaners that I have moved on to personal care items.
