Orange Peels

Category: Housekeeping

I use orange peels in garbage disposal. Saves money on liquid cleaners,  safe and smells great!

Laundry

Category: Housekeeping

I always had laundry piling up. I never felt like doing it when I got home from work, then when I finally got to it I would have to rewash it. Now I fluff the load that is in the dryer and either fold it, or lay it out on my bed before I go to work - and start another load. Then when I get home, I have one load of laundry to finish and put away. It has saved me so much time, and I don't feel overwhelmed by laundry anymore!

One Room At a Time

Category: Housekeeping

When cleaning the house, get a laundry basket and clean one room at a time. Anything that does not belong in the room you are cleaning, put it in the laundry basket. That way, you are not constantly running back and forth, from room to room, upstairs and downstairs, getting sidetracked and trying to clean little bits at a time. Focus on one room only, then when that room is clean, move to the next room with your laundry basket. Be sure to unload items belonging in that room. When you are finished cleaning that room, move on to the next. You will be finished when your laundry basket is empty! If you only get one room completely clean, great! Maintain that room while cleaning the other rooms the next day!

Food Stuck On

Category: Housekeeping

For the stuck on food splatters on your stove top, I like to use a wash cloth wet with hot water, set the cloth on the food spot and let sit about 5 min or so while you do something else. When you come back, it will wipe right off. This is especially good for those special top stoves that you cant use many chemicals on- works every time!

Washing Dishes

Category: Housekeeping

I hate doing dishes, but I also hate to waste water. The key is, I run it every night at bedtime (set the timer after dinner clean up) and empty it first thing in the morning. I prefer to let it run at bedtime so it catches any dishes we might generate from late night snacks. Voila! My family is home most of the day, so by the end of the day, it really is pretty full. Also, my family knows that the stuff in the dishwasher is always dirty, so there's no excuse for leaving things in the sink or on the counter. Sort your silverware as you put it in the rack. One slot for knives, one forks, spoons, etc. It saves me minutes every day, not having to stand at the drawer and sort as I put it away.

My Mop

Category: Housekeeping

I am a senior citizen with osteoporosis, so bending and reaching is a problem. My mop is my friend. I clean my shower from top to bottom, Clean my sliding glass doors, top of the refrigerator even the bathroom stool. of course I have a separate mop for that.

Teamwork

Category: Housekeeping

I find each person's interest when it comes to housework and allow them the pleasure of being a product part of our family and keeping our home running well. My husband would rather load the dishwasher everyday than put them away (so he loads) and my teen would rather put them away then load...so they TEAM IT together and are very productive. My 6 yr old son HATES putting clothes away, BUT my 4 yr daughter LOVES putting clothes on hangers and helping me put them all away...so we TEAM-IT together. Simplifying for me is zeroing in on what they are good at, and encouraging them to help be productive. I feel it will serve them very well in the future. Sure they do things they don't enjoy as well, but I always keep an ear open and an eye peeled for what they LOVE and ENJOY. It makes it more pleasant and enjoyable and most importantly more productive!

Chores Each Day

Category: Housekeeping

I'm a single mom with one teenaged son. I work 2 jobs, and often feel like it's 3 when I come home and cook, clean and do laundry. My son helps out some, but not as much as I wish. Our home is never spic-n-span clean, but he and I choose a room a day to attend to, but dishes done everyday. Chores get done and quality time with my 16year old.

Pick Up

Category: Housekeeping

Don't know why it took me 50+ years to figure this one out, it seems so simple- but just pick up after yourself. When you put on your makeup in the AM, put it away when you're done. When you are cooking, put the ingredients away as you use them, etc. It just makes life so much easier.

Lost Socks

Category: Housekeeping

Socks seem to be lost ALOT so each person in our house has a net bag to put socks into when taken off. Throw those in washer and socks get clean and then can be paired up and back in draw. With 4 kids I am always doing laundry.
