I have the hardest time fitting prayer and bible time in on some (okay, most) days. I decided with this new year though that I would pray and read my bible no matter what was going on and with a few changes it has made a big difference. I have three bibles that belong to me personally, all different versions that I keep in different places. One in the bedroom next to the bed, one in the bathroom, and one in my car. At night, my husband and I read Psalm 91 over our home and family for peaceful rest, the one in the bathroom is always read after a long day in a hot bubble bath, and the other in the car has made the biggest difference. On each trip you take in our town, you're almost guaranteed to be stopped at a train for at least 10 minutes at a time, therefore, getting in 10 minutes here and there at random times has been a blessing to me and sometimes that's when God speaks to me the most. I used to get so stressed while waiting for trains to be done, now I look forward to it and even enjoy it and think of it as a blessing when they stop and I have to wait that much longer! As for prayer time, it is hard to find a specific time to pray most days and even harder to stick to exercising, that I have added these two together and started my own routine. I start walking and don't look at the clock until I am totally done talking with God, before I know it, an hour as usually passed without me even looking at the clock one time! I also keep a little book with me of my favorite handwritten scriptures, people and things to pray for, and encouraging words from God that I pull out when waiting in the doctor's office or in line somewhere that keeps my mind off of the stresses of the day. I have been praying also in the car with my daughter so she knows how to pray, at eighteen months she already holds her hands in the air and says "amen" when we're done. These may seem like little things, but the difference it has made in my house is HUGE and I hope to keep finding more ways to add prayer and bible study in to my life throughout this new year!
