Hard to Open Packages

Category: Other

These days it seems like more and more items are coming in those tightly sealed, difficult to open, plastic blister packs that have the hard sealed edges. Even using scissors makes it a stressful task. I've discovered that if you use a hand crank can opener, starting at one of the corners, simply crank down one of the sealed edges, and the package easily comes open.

Hanger Shoulders

Category: Other

Have you ever taken a shirt off the hanger only to find that the shoulders of the shirt still look as though the hanger is still there? I call these "hanger shoulders" - those poofy, pouchy spikes that stick up on the shoulders of your shirt. To get rid of these, put the shirt on, spritz some Downy wrinkle release on those shoulders and pat the spikes down, smoothing the shoulders of the shirt over your shoulders. When the shirt is dry, the hanger marks are gone!

Spin Toothbrushes

Category: Parenting

I have 3 boys and am constantly fighting with them about brushing their teeth. If I don't stand and supervise, I'll walk past to see them playing, or just holding the toothbrush in their mouth until the timer runs out. While I've always thought the spin brushes were just a gimmick, I finally broke down and "Santa" put them in their stockings. It's amazing how much that has simplified my life! Now I walk by and they are brushing away! They think it's so cool! And I can get back to making lunches, laying out clothes, and all the other things a busy mom of 3 has to do in the mornings. Ended up being a simple solution to make life a little more simple!

Don't Wait Until Tomorrow

Category: Time Management

This may not seem like a trick, but believe me, it works! Simply don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today! This was my New Years resolution last year. It helped me so much I'm doing it again this year. I know it's crazy simple, but it has helped me so much! I hope it helps someone else.

No Rip Calendars

Category: Other

Calendars with little holes to hang on a hook or nail generally get ripped when I change it each month, or when the fan blows on it. Now I use a small binder clip to hold the pages together, and the "handles" are just right for hanging. No more ripped or taped-up calendars.

A Load of Laundry Each Day

Category: Housekeeping

Do at least one load of laundry every day. Empty all the hampers every morning and start a load before you leave the house. Put it in the dryer in the afternoon or when you come home from work. Then fold it and put it away before bed. You will never have to scale "Mount Washmore" again!

Pre-Sort Laundry

Category: Housekeeping

I pre-sort my laundry in the laundry room. I have 4 hampers set up and have them organized by darks, lights, towels, and delicates. As I bring laundry down from bedrooms throughout the week, or if people "shed" laundry when they go through the laundry room, the laundry gets sorted into these hampers. When a bin is full, I wash that load of laundry. It saves time by not having to constantly sort laundry, or spend time sorting all those loads when I need to wash them - it's already done and I can just throw the load in!

The Night Before School

Category: Parenting

I always try to make sure my daughter has shower, clothes picked out, and lunch made the night before. We are not morning people so this saves a lot of headaches in the morning. (My husband does the same thing for himself)

Cancel the Cable

Category: Relationships

Cancel the cable.
I know it sounds crazy but you will have more time with your family- time to be creative and have more meaningful conversation. Also you will have one less bill to worry about and more money to save or spend on game/pizza night to create lasting memories. Enjoy your new year with your family!

Leaving It Till Tomorrow

Category: Housekeeping

On the days when I feel like I "need" to do something around the house (which is most days), I ask myself one question: "How much will it bother me tomorrow?" If the idea of leaving it til tomorrow makes me anxious, I take care of it right away. If not, I leave it and spend time with family or doing other things I enjoy. Most of the time, it's not a big deal to leave it alone. It will all get done eventually.
