Life is Too Short

Life is too short to fold your underwear!!

Each Day's Chore

Category: Organization

To simplify keeping our household clean & organized I have come up with routine where I do specific things on certain days of the week every week. They are things that won't take more than 30 minutes total so it doesn't take a lot of time. For example, on Monday I clean the bathrooms, on Tuesday I clean the kitchen, Wednesday I take care of bills, filing, shredding, Thursday I dust & collect garbage, Friday I clean out my purse, the car, and email. This keeps up the major areas of our life and we don't spend our whole weekend reorganizing & cleaning.

Getting the Last out of a Jar

Category: Other

To get the last of a liquid out of any container with a lid- First tighten lid (very important), turn bottle/jar upside down and use centripetal force to bring all liquid to the top of the jar. (Create centripetal force by extending arm out to side and making large circular movement with your arm- think "I'm an airplane!"). It works perfectly and has the added bonus that you are guaranteed to have people look at you funny when they see you.

Hairdryer for Melting Chocolate

Category: Other

Need melted chocolate but don't want to bother with a double boiler or risk of burning in the microwave? Use a hairdryer! It makes melting chocolate chips VERY easy and fast!

Category: Housekeeping

Have you ever had a stripped screw in a cabinet or other furniture? Remove screw. Insert one or two tooth picks and screw old screw back in. Also if you have scratched furniture or cabinets, rub a walnut over the scratch to remove the scratch. Hope these tips make your life easier!

Vicks on Candle Warmer

Category: Other

When you are sick, or have a sick child, you can use a Scentsy warmer, or warmer from Walmart, and add some Vicks Vapor Rub mixed with water. The vapors from the rub will be released into the air by the heat from your warmer. The Scentsy warmers are best, and they are safe to leave on for long hours. Its great for clearing up your nose and sinuses!

Meal Calendar

Category: Organization

At the end of every year I purchase a wall calendar at Target for $1.00. The calendar has boxes big enough to write in the meals I plan for a month. I can prepare my grocery list and stick to it! This allows less food wasted and more savings. The key is to be flexible enough to change meal plans if you have enough leftovers for the next day.

Color Coordination

Category: Organization

I attend school while working full-time. It's important that I keep my schoolwork organized. I color coordinate my classes as much as possible. If I have a blue textbook, I use a blue folder for my papers. Green book? green folder. When I mark the due dates for the assignments in my calendar, I color coordinate them as well.

Not Watching TV

Category: Relationships

Our trick to simplify our life as a family is to not watch the television. Without the distraction of the television we have more time to do other things together as a family.

Outgoing Mail

Category: Organization

At the beginning of each month, I write out the necessary paperwork for the month's bills, and any cards or other correspondence for upcoming birthdays, anniversaries, or any other special occasions that I would be sending. I put these items in the appropriate envelopes, address them and then I place the date when each letter needs to be mailed in the corner where the stamp will go. I arrange these envelopes in order, by the ones that need to be mailed the earliest. That way, they are all ready, and just need to be mailed on the appropriate day.
