Downsize the Closet

Category: Organization

One of my resolutions this year is to downsize my abundance of clothes/Shoes/Purses/Jewelry/Accessories/etc. I'm sure many females can sympathize with my situation :) My closets, cabinets and dressers sre filled to the brim with stuff I don't really need. In order to accomplish this I given myself a system. If I haven't used or worn the specific item into applicable seasons, it is getting tossed, donated or given away. For example if I haven't worn a sweater since Christmas 2011 then I'm getting rid of it. I don't care how much sentimental value it holds if it is going to collect dust and there is someone that can put it to better use. Hopefully this system will simplify my life and de-clutter my home.

Wax Paper

Category: Housekeeping

Hate water spots and fingerprints on sink fixtures? Simply rub them down with a piece of wax paper! Also, add a few drops of olive oil to a clean cloth and use to wipe down stainless steel for a long lasting glossy finish!

Sticky Noodles

Category: Meals

There is nothing more annoying than having hunks of spaghetti noodles globbed together when going to serve dinner. This is how I keep my noodles (spaghetti, macaroni, lasagna--any kind) from sticking together while boiling in the pot. I drop about a teaspoon to tablespoon full of canola or olive oil in the water when I put the noodles in and stir! Works every time.

Vegetable Soup

Category: Meals

When I have leftover vegetables that I know I won't use in then next few days - I add them to a "vegetable bag" in my freezer. I any anything-corn, green beans, limas, black beans, cut up baked potatoes, etc. When the bag gets full I add ham pieces (also kept in freezer), tomato juice and spices to make Vegetable soup!! Yummy!

Getting Wallpaper Off

Category: Housekeeping

When we first moved in to our country home, there was wallpaper EVERYWHERE! Not that I'm knocking wallpaper, but this stuff you could tell was old and peeling not in a good way. We worked for hours and hours peeling off the stuff with sticky, gunky wallpaper spray that wasn't working for us, until this AMAZING trick! It totally cut our time in half. Mix 1 cap full of fabric softener with 24 oz of water in a spray bottle and let er rip! The wallpaper comes of like butter with a putty knife, and it is a great two-fer because it makes the room smell wonderful and fresh! We had our mini nursery of rabbits and chicks before we did this and now its our guest room and you could never tell that we raised animals in there :)

2 Loads of Laundry Each Day

Category: Housekeeping

We are a family of six so laundry can be a challenge. I am also working full time for the first time in years. I try to do at least two loads of laundry a day. That way I am never overwhelmed and it really doesn't take that long to fold two loads.

Odor in the Carpet

Category: Housekeeping

Here's something my family has always done with odors that simply REFUSE to come out of the carpets. Sprinkle baking soda all over the rug and wait 2 hours. It is best if you can keep traffic to a minimum. Vacuum it all up and voila! Fresh new smell and you didn't even have to hire out a service! :) Also works great on pet stains! For that we usually spray simple green first, a multi purpose spray that you can get at Wal-Mart. Let it soak for 20 minutes, blot up the excess, then do your baking soda magic!

Pre-Packing Lunches

Category: Time Management

I'm a new mother of a busy 15 month old boy and work part-time. The evenings of the days that I work are busy with playing with my son, spending time with my husband, making dinner, and packing lunches. I began to pack lunches for my husband and I on Sunday nights and dedicated a shelf in my fridge to pre-packed lunch foods ( fruits, veggies, sandwiches, salads, etc). So now all we have to do is grab the already prepared foods from the fridge and fill our lunch bags! It has given us more time to spend together on those busy days we work-hope it helps you too!

Read & Pray

I read the Holy Bible and pray to God.

Home Made Carpet Cleaner

Category: Housekeeping

1 Cup Vinegar
1 scoop of OXI clean
1 Gallon hot water
1/4 C baking soda
This is what I use to clean my carpets. It's very simple to make & works better than the "store bought"  for my carpets. Its also safe for a steam cleaner. I've had coffee, Kool-Aid, blood & what ever else my dogs, kids and husband can do to the carpet. (I had to put a little elbow grease in the Kool-Aid stain, but it worked!)
